How come when i make the keyboard mute on my blackberry curve, when i dial numbers, it still makes sounds?

i changed the settings of my keyboard to mute, and yet, when i dial a number, the numbers on the keypad make sounds. how do i turn this off?How come when i make the keyboard mute on my blackberry curve, when i dial numbers, it still makes sounds?Mute the speaker/ main volume.
